Participants and family accounts
How children and families are structured, what parents can do themselves, and how to avoid duplicate records.

Accounts hold participants
An account is a family. Participants are the children within it. One account can hold several children, which is what makes sibling bookings and a single family invoice possible.
Contact details, emergency contacts and authorised pickups live at the level they belong to — a phone number on the account, an allergy on the child.

What parents can do themselves
- Book and pay for programmes for any child on their account.
- Update their own contact details and payment method.
- See schedules, attendance and invoices without asking you.

Avoiding duplicates
Bookingo matches families on their contact details, so a parent who books once by phone and later signs up themselves ends up on the same account rather than a second one. If you do spot two records for the same family, resolve it early — duplicates split a family's booking history and make invoices harder to follow.

More on families and children
Adding a family without creating a duplicate
What to put on a family record when you add one yourself, and what Bookingo does when the email address or phone number already belongs to someone.
Blocking a contact so they can't book
Stop an email address or phone number being used to book with you, and know exactly what a block leaves running.
Giving two households access to the same child
Link two family records so both adults can book for the same child, without the child existing twice and taking two places.
